A rail corridor from Oslo to Palermo
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has begun to build the rail link to the "Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link".
The first trains are scheduled to run through the Fehmarnbelt tunnel from Copenhagen (Denmark) to Lübeck and Hamburg (both Germany) as early as the end of 2029.
For railfreight, the new EUR 3.5 billion route is the centrepiece of a new continuous rail corridor between Oslo (Norway) and Palermo (southern Italy).
To start with, DB will expand the double-track and electrify the 11.4 km route between Puttgarden and the Fehmarnsund Bridge - the first of a total of ten construction phases. Of the 88 km of total track, 55 km will be newly built. (ben)
