A port basin in Bremenports refurbished
A key milestone in the development of the port: After about three years of construction the new Westkaje in the "Kaiserhafen III" harbour in Bremerhaven (Germany) is complete. With the dismantling of the old quays the port basin has now become 9 m wider.
The Kaiserhafen III was originally built as a side port from 1907 to 1909. Since 2017, 500 m of the 800 m long quay have been rebuilt. All in all, around 4,000 t of sheet piling and 3,500 cbm of concrete were used and around 50,000 cbm of earth were dug out.
The approved budget for the project was EUR 32.7 million. Bermenports managing director Robert Howe said that, with this completion, the port had reached another milestone towards strengthening the port infrastructure. (mw)
