A niche from Dubai to the Pacific islands

It’s an invention of the 1985-founded non-vessel operating common carrier Cargo Gulf. The NVOCC has introduced a service linking the Persian Gulf and Sri Lanka to the Pacific Islands. The service commenced from Dubai (UAE) on 19 October and from Colombo (Sri Lanka) on 23 October.

It offers fortnightly sailings connecting the company’s hubs in Busan (South Korea), Singapore and Port Klang (Malaysia) to Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia, as well as to the northern Australian ports of Darwin and Dampier.

Cargo Gulf’s global development director Hans-Henrik Nielsen said that “we found this niche market appealing, as it’s different from larger and more price-driven markets, where container flow is regular. With the ongoing extreme equipment crunch, most larger container operators don’t pay as much attention to small markets, due to the lack of equipment, which has enabled our entry, as we have sufficient containers in our fleet.” (sh)
