A new train service from South East Europe
Shippers now have another option to bridge the distance between Asia and Europe: the Austrian Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has launched a new regular cargo train linking the Croatian port of Rijeka, via the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), to Budapest in Hungary. It will run at a fixed timetable two times per week and offer a direct connection without stopovers from Budapest to Rijeka and vice versa.
In March 2011, Philippines-based Ictsi won a 30-year concession from Luka Rijeka to operate, manage and develop the AGCT at the Port of Rijeka, Croatia’s major seaport.
Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT CEO: "Currently, there are multiple regular weekly block trains between Rijeka and different rail hubs in Budapest, Hungary, but all are dedicated rail services. This initiative adds a common rail service not just directly to Bilk terminal in Budapest, but from Budapest connecting to Transfer’s entire intermodal network all over Europe. There is immediate potential for Austria, Czechia, Romania and Slovakia.” (cd)
