A new approach in urban logistics
In Strasbourg, Urban Logistic Solutions (ULS) and Geodis are joining forces to reduce their impact on the environment. They are now using a pusher-barge system and e-bikes to supply merchants and individuals in Strasbourg’s city centre.
This partnership is one of the initiatives undertaken by Geodis to offer carbon-free deliveries in 37 metropolitan areas of France by 2024. The giant French group has selected ULS, which won a tender published by the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and Voies Navigables de France for the creation of an urban logistics river shuttle combined with an e-bike delivery service.
From now on, packages and pallets are sent from distribution centres by barge to the Fishermen’s Wharf in the city centre from where electric bike couriers equipped with trailers cover the last mile. (sh)
