A major investment in climate neutrality
During a visit to Kiel port, Schleswig-Holstein’s economics and transport minister Claus Ruhe Madsen and Port of Kiel CEO Dirk Claus discussed the port's development, including upcoming expansion and digitalisation projects. The port oerator plans to invest nearly EUR 70 million over the next five years, a significant but necessary effort.
Madsen expressed support for the port's plans, noting its development in cargo and passenger traffic, as well as steps towards climate neutrality, such as shore power provision. Both agreed on the need for clearer funding commitments from the federal port strategy.
Port of Kiel handles 7.9 million t of freight annually and plays a crucial role in North European logistics, military transport, and passenger traffic, with over 2.8 million passengers transiting the port last year. (pb)
