A joint effort to design a long-haul reefer
The Rotterdam-based Unit 45, a company specialising in the design, construction, financing and delivery of 45ft pallet-wide containers, has developed a new diesel-electric reefer in collaboration with the Belgian company H.Essers.
The new reefer was designed with a 900 litre tank, making it 100 litres larger in capacity than the previous version. It features a motor manufactured by Thermo King and has a low fuel consumption.
A high cooling capacity and a user-friendly temperature control system make the vehicle suitable for transporting pharmaceutical products, perishable goods, and appliances for long-distance journeys as well, for instance as part of the New Silk route. The reefer can remain self-supporting for 18 to 28 days without being refuelled. (sh)
