A Japanes first in Zeebrugge
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) advises that it has started using bio-LNG for its LNG-fuelled car carrier "Celeste Ace", marking a milestone in its decarbonisation efforts. On 16 March, the vessel was supplied with 500 t of bio-LNG from Titan Supply$ at the port of Zeebrugge (Belgium).
The "Celeste Ace" is the first ocean-going vessel operated by a Japanese shipping company to use bio-LNG, a fuel certified under the EU’s International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). With a carbon intensity of less than zero, bio-LNG can further reduce CO₂ emissions beyond the 25% achieved with conventional LNG.
MOL’s Marine Fuel GX Division stated that the company aims to accelerate the adoption of bio-LNG and synthetic LNG as part of its "Blue Action 2035" strategy to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. (ah)
