A greater solar impact in Austria
Early in August the logistician Gebrüder Weiss (GW) commissioned a photovoltaic power plant at its Graz branch office (Kalsdorf, Austria) that can generate more than 460 MWh of electricity a year. It will supply around 50% of the energy needed to run the 27,000 sqm logistics centre. Markus Nigsch, head of facility management, pointed out that “using the roof of the logistics centres to generate solar power was part of the concept at the planning stage.”
The logistics company already uses solar power at five branches in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Gebrüder Weiss is planning to equip an additional four branches with solar power plants this year. Once installed, all its facilities will produce a total of 8.5 GWh of electricity and save around 1,050 t of CO2 every year. The Group's aim is to run all of its logistics buildings with renewable energy by 2030. (sh)
