A good season for Hapag-LLoyd
Higher freight rates and rising transport volumes have the cash registers ringing at Hapag-Lloyd. In the first nine months of 2021, revenues rose by an outstanding 70% to EUR 15 billion, while ebitda stood at EUR 6.8 billion and ebit at EUR 5.8 billion. At the same time, group profits surged to EUR 5.6 billion.
The average freight rate of 1,818 USD/teu from January till September 2021 is in contrast to the 1,097 USD/teu in the same period last year. Transport volumes are approaching the level of 9 million teu, 3% higher than in 2020.
However, transport costs also climbed by 16% in the nine-month period, to EUR 7.4 billion, due to higher costs for container handling and bunker consumption.
Hapag-LLoyd nevertheless raised its forecast for the entire year, with an ebitda in the range of EUR 10.1 to 10.9 billion (previously EUR 7.6 to 9.3 billion) and an ebit in the range of EUR 8.7 to 9.5 billion (previously EUR 6.2 to 7.9 billion). (sh)
