A good March in South Carolina Ports
On the US East Coast, South Carolina Ports witnessed its best handling results ever last month, with the Port of Charleston processing record volumes as the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal began operations.
SC Ports moved almost 249,000 teu across the Port of Charleston’s Wando Welch and North Charleston container terminals. This is 34% more than in the same period last year.
Loaded imports were particularly strong in March, nearly rising by 50% at the Port of Charleston. The previous container record was set in August 2019, with more than 233,000 teu handled.
Furthermore, the new Leatherman Terminal will add 700,000 teu annual capacity and another berth to the facility. The Inland Port Greer reported its busiest month in history with almost 17,000 rail moves, up 20.3% from March 2019. (cd)
