A female footstep in India
A.P. Moller–Maersk has opened a new Indian warehouse in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. Located within the premises of the company’s container freight station (CFS), the 9,200 sqm warehouse is completely run and operated by women.
The company has hired, trained, and created jobs for 84 women who needed employment, but did not have the right opportunities. The unit will report to Vikash Agarwal, managing director, Maersk South Asia. He said: "As per the 2021 census, Dadri has only 6% working women of its total population, and our team on the ground had a strong desire to contribute towards a change in that respect.”
The journey to create employment for all these women began already in January 2022, when the team at the Dadri CFS started a dialogue with local contracting agencies to hire women to be trained and offered employment in the future new warehouse. (sh)
