A federal grant to grow Gulf gateway

The port of New Orleans has been awarded a USD 226.2 million federal grant for the Louisiana International Terminal (LIT). Part of the infrastructure for rebuilding America programme, the fund complements a previous USD 73.8 million grant, amounting to USD 300 million for the USD 1.8 billion project. Supported by federal, state, private partners, and regional ports, LIT will boost jobs and economic growth.

Situated in Violet, Louisiana, the terminal will enhance connectivity through interstate systems, railroads, and waterways, expanding import-export capacity. It represents a significant public-private partnership, with construction starting in 2025 and initial operations by 2028. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and generate substantial tax revenue. (pb)
