A federal grant to cut emissions

In Florida, the federal department of transportation’s (DOT) maritime administration has awarded a grant of USD 23.5 million to support Jaxport's programme to reduce emissions with the sustainable solutions (express) project.

This programme is a USD 47 million public-private partnership formed by the Port Authority and two of its port tenants, SSA Jacksonville and Crowley.

The grant will support sustainability initiatives at the port's Blount Island and Talleyrand marine terminals, focussing on zero- and near-zero-emission cargo-handling equipment technologies.

The initiative is expected to achieve greenhouse gas reductions, expand energy-efficient terminal infrastructure and develop a plan to transition to lower emission port infrastructure and maritime operations. (sh)
