780,000 truck shipments shifted by rail
The German intermodal operator Kombiverkehr recorded a slight decline in shipments last year, on account of the ongoing economic downturn and various line closures.
In 2024 the CT operator transported around 780,000 containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers, or around 1.5 million teu, 5% less than in the previous year. The network in Germany accounted for around 180,000 shipments (–3%), whilst around 600,000 (–6%) shipments were transported internationally. By shifting truck loads to the railways, Kombiverkehr saved around 1.12 million t of CO2, compared to pure road transport, the company said.
Kombiverkehr introduced some new services in 2024, including connections to and from Rotterdam (Netherlands), Spain and Scandinavia. (ben)
