740 m long train for Dutch/German cross-border traffic
The German and Dutch transport ministries are teaming up to increase the efficiency of cross-border railfreight services between the two countries. The two parties recently signed a letter of intent. Digitalisation and automation will underpin the joint undertaking, according to DB Cargo.
For example, the two countries want to test self-driving trains and digital automatic coupling systems that can be used for standardising and automating operations at marshalling yards.
The letter of intent also contains a pledge to speed up the introduction of 740 m long trains for cross-border traffic. Rail network operators need to ensure that their infrastructure can cope with the increased loads. (ben)
