740 km of Indian network electrified
Konkan Rail, one of the biggest rail networks in India, is moving towards net zero carbon emission: In its efforts to electrify its entire broad-gauge network, Konkan Railway has accomplished the 100% electrification of all its 741 km route network in India.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in November 2015. The task has been challenging because of the difficult terrain covered by Konkan Railway, a non-conducive atmosphere due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the extreme monsoons in the Konkan region. (ben)
