60% less CO2

HHLA subsidiary Metrans switched all rail transports to sustainably generated electricity last year. Although the volumes transported increased, maritime transports in the Metrans network between European ports and their hinterland generated around 60% less CO2 in 2021, the rail company said.

Metrans also enables green transports with "HHLA pure" connections, with which customers can fully offset the emissions of their container transports. For 912,000 teu transported between Hamburg and Bremerhafen in Germany and Koper in Slovenia last year, more than 45,000 t of CO2 were offset by climate protection projects in accordance with the certified gold standard.
