500,000 t of perishables by train

Indian Railways has operated 1,586 transports since the launch of the first Kisan Rail service on 7 August 2020. Until 19 November, the trains carried more than 520.000 t of fruits and vegetables across ten Indian states.

Kishan Rail service was introduced by Indian Railways to improve Indian farmers' economic situation by connecting India's agriculture production sites to the markets.

More than a year later it is clear that Kisan Rail project is a success, enabling speedy movement of perishables from the countryside to the towns as well as remote regions. So far, no difficulties have been reported during the transport of goods on the Kisan Rail service, the ministry of railways said. (ben)
