500,000 freight wagons to be refitted
DB Cargo and six other European partners have joined forces in a "Dac-Fit" consortium to migrate the digital automatic coupling (DAC) system to their wagon fleets and workshops. From 2028, DAC is to be installed in around 500,000 freight wagons in Europe without disruptions or restrictions in ongoing operations.
To this end, all freight wagons, locomotives, special vehicles, and workshops in Europe must first be recorded and technically analysed. The consortium is supported by institutes and companies such as K + V (Germany), Instytut Kolejnictwa (Poland), VUKV (Czechia), BME ITS (Hungary), VPI European Rail Service and the Fraunhofer Institute.
