Electric refrigeration specialist Hultsteins has helped Salford Van Hire cut CO2 for its client Danish Crown. The food supplier’s UK heavy vehicle fleet comprises eight 13.6 m refrigerated trailers and five DAF tractor units.
They were supplied by Salford and are equipped with Hultsteins’ Ecogen range, which transforms existing diesel transport refrigeration units (TRU) to electric. The system is fitted to the tractor unit and runs off the engine’s power take-off.
Danish Crown’s entire articulated heavy vehicle fleet has been equipped with the Ecogen units since early May, rendering its TRU completely emission-free and slashing 50 t of CO2 per annum. (ben)
