40 t e-truck across the Arlberg pass

An eActros 300 truck participated in a series of tests as a tractor unit recently, in which it also crossed the Arlberg pass in Austria. Mercedes-Benz engineers loaded the semi-trailer to a total weight of 40 t for the test in Tyrol, which covered 111 km and overcame a total elevation of more than 1,800 m. The lorry successfully completed the run without intermediate re-charging.

The project focused specially on energy recovery through recuperation. The tests showed that the electric tractor unit was able to recover a total of around 180 kWh of energy.

At the end of the tour, about 40% of the energy was still available. In total, the electric semi-trailer climbed 2,300 m of altitude during the test, with a maximum gradient of 13%. Serial production of the unit is planned for 2023. ( ben)
