40 candles for ECT in Venlo
Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam opened its first railway terminal in Venlo forty years ago, in 1982. Since then, it has gradually been transformed into a large logistics centre. With five weekly barge connections to and from Rotterdam and Antwerp and 24 rail connections to and from Rotterdam per week, Hutchison Ports Venlo represents an important inland hub and link in ECT’s network.
ECT CEO Leo Ruijs is grateful to the authorities. "The long-standing fruitful cooperation between the municipality of Venlo and the province of Limburg and ECT has played a major role in ensuring the success of Venlo as a logistics hotspot."
In the late 1980s ECT moved to its current location together with its partner Seacon Logistics, and in 2010 Venlo was also made accessible by water with the opening of ECT's barge terminal. The barge terminal is expected to almost double its capacity by 2024. (cd)
