30,700 trucks shift to rail
Steel producer SSAB and Swedish state-owned railway Green Cargo are extending their partnership which comprises shipments of some 700,000 t of finished goods each year.
Under the three-year contract, Green Cargo will transport steel coil and cut lengths of sheet steel from SSAB’s Swedish plants in Borlänge and Oxelösund to customers in Sweden and Denmark. The volumes are important for Green Cargo’s wagon load network and represent the equivalent of 30,700 trucks.
Green Cargo also handles shunting at the premises seven days a week and assembles wagon load trains for onward departure to the recipients. Green Cargo transports 21 million t of freight, has 1,800 employees and generates annual sales of about SEK 4 billion (EUR 0.393 billion). (ben)
