30 LNG vehicles for long-haul traffic
Freight forwarder Heinrich Gustke Spedition in Rostock, Germany, has put 30 modern Iveco semi-trailers powered by LNG into service. For the company, natural gas is a marketable alternative for trucks deployed for long-haul transports.
"Compared to diesel engines, our gas-powered vehicles emit substantially less CO2, 60% less nitrogen oxide and hardly any particulate matter. Moreover, methane engines are quieter and require less fuel," CEO Stephan Gustke explained.
To prepare the trucks for long-haul journeys given the ongoing shortage of LNG fuelling stations along the route, Gustke has opted for the Iveco S-Way NP with two LNG tanks. The tanks can hold around 390 kg of natural gas, which allows for a travel range of up to 1,600 km. (ben)
