2022: mixed picture at the Spanish ports
The Spanish ports moved a total of 88.3 million t of goods in the first two months of 2022, 8.6% more than in the same period of 2021. While January practically reached the pre-pandemic level, this trend did not continue in February, and the freight traffic accumulated in these two months was 1.1% lower than in the first two months of 2019.
Compared to 2021, containerised merchandise went down by 5.0% compared to the previous year, while solid bulks registered a strong rise (+23.9%), followed by conventional general cargo (+15.8%) and liquid bulks (+15.2%).
Foreign maritime trade totalled 49.2 million t, 14.9% more than in 2021 and above pre-pandemic values (+1.7%), driven by imports that totalled 34.6 million t (+23.2% compared to 2021). Exports were at 14.6 million t and declined slightly compared to the previous year (-0.9%). (sh)
