2018 good for port of Lubeck

Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG), operator of the port of Lubeck (Germany), was able to boost its 2018 throughput by 1.2% to around 22.1 million t. The container handling sector noted an almost 4% increase.

Ro-ro traffic (about 730,000 units) made the biggest contribution to the upsurge. Although truck numbers decreased slightly, the amount of work-intensive trailers grew by more than 10%.

Forest products (paper, cellulose and cut timber) underwent a revival in 2018. Lubeck’s terminals handled a total of 6% more such products in 2018, compared to 2017. Steel handling in the breakbulk sector also noted a positive development.

The LHG subsidiary Baltic Rail Gate benefited from bigger volumes at the port. For the first time in its history, Baltic Rail Gate overshot the 100,000 mark. The intermodal facility’s two gantry cranes lifted exactly 103,800 trailers and containers last year. (kd)
