14 countries team up for a trade tool

14 government agencies in charge of guarding national frontiers worldwide, amongst them the USA’s Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP), have agreed on a common tool to improve their services.

They will deploy a so-called ‘Global Business Identifier’ (GBI) pilot programme that will test the concept of a single business identifier solution to improve the USA’s ability to better identify high-risk shipments and facilitate legitimate trade.

Through the GBI’s Evaluative Proof of Concept (EPoC), pioneers from the trade community will provide the initiative with information to allow more comprehensive insight into shipper, seller, and manufacturer data.

The pilot programme seeks to modernise trade processes and achieve greater visibility in supply chains, thus enhancing the countries’ enforcement capabilities, whilst facilitating the clearance of fair and legal trade. (sh)
