13% more cargo at Germany's airports
The German federal airport association ADV (working group of German airports) hopes that current developments in the air cargo industry may be seen as an early indicator of economic recovery. In December, cargo volumes at Germany's airports rose by 13% compared to the previous month.
The growth in import volumes was higher (16.3% to 291,497 t) than in exports, which increased by 10.1% to 229,817 t. The continuation of the positive trend is due to stabilising trade flows and the Christmas business, in the online trade in particular.
Besides the current upturn in the demand for cargo services, the figures also reflect the base effect compared to last year's Christmas season. The German aviation association will present the industry's cumulative annual results within the next few days. (ah)
