10 million Covid-19 vaccines

IAG Cargo, the airfreight division of the International Airlines Group (IAG), has transported no less than 10 million Covid-19 vaccines. This figure includes 4 million doses hauled to Abuja (Nigeria) in collaboration with Unicef and its Covax initiative, and 300,000 doses donated to Jamaica by the UK.

The Abuja shipment, completed on behalf of Unicef, departed London Heathrow in July, on two British Airways Boeing B777-200s. The 300,000 doses bound for Jamaica also departed in July and were delivered in partnership with Crown Agents on a British Airways Boeing B777-200. This move was coordinated with a UK government scheme announced at the G7 summit in June, to donate 100 million vaccines overseas.

IAG Cargo’s hub at London Heathrow is GDP-certified and WDA-licensed by the UK’s medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency (MHRA). In 2019 IAG opened a pharmaceutical centre in Madrid dedicated to processing temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. (ah)
