Les avions doivent \u00eatre livr\u00e9s en 2027 et font partie d&#8217;un projet ax\u00e9 sur la lutte contre les ravageurs envahissants qui menacent en particulier les agrumes le long du Rio Grande au Texas.<\/p>\n<h3>Contexte : Mouche du vis de la Nouvelle-Monde et m\u00e9thode de l&#8217;autocide<\/h3>\n<p>La mouche du vis de la Nouvelle-Monde (NWS), scientifiquement connue sous le nom de Cochliomyia hominivorax, est un ravageur d\u00e9vastateur qui affecte principalement le b\u00e9tail. Pour pr\u00e9venir la propagation de la NWS aux \u00c9tats-Unis, l&#8217;USDA collabore \u00e9troitement avec le Corps des ing\u00e9nieurs de l&#8217;arm\u00e9e des \u00c9tats-Unis (USACE). Ensemble, ils ont sign\u00e9 un contrat pour la construction d&#8217;une nouvelle installation de production de mouches st\u00e9riles sur la base a\u00e9rienne de Moore \u00e0 Edinburg, au Texas. Lorsque des m\u00e2les st\u00e9riles s&#8217;accouplent avec des femelles sauvages, celles-ci pondent des \u0153ufs non f\u00e9cond\u00e9s qui ne peuvent pas \u00e9clore. Cette m\u00e9thode s&#8217;est r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e extr\u00eamement efficace et respectueuse de l&#8217;environnement, et est reconnue dans le monde entier.<\/p>\n<p>La nouvelle installation au Texas sera la seule de son genre aux \u00c9tats-Unis et travaillera en collaboration avec des installations existantes au Panama et au Mexique pour lutter contre la NWS. D&#8217;ici novembre 2027, on s&#8217;attend \u00e0 ce que l&#8217;installation au Texas atteigne une capacit\u00e9 de production de 100 millions de mouches st\u00e9riles par semaine, avec un objectif \u00e0 long terme de 300 millions.<\/p>\n<h3>Extension de la flotte pour la lutte contre les ravageurs<\/h3>\n<p>Selon Bob Gibbs, vice-pr\u00e9sident des ventes pour les missions sp\u00e9ciales chez Textron Aviation, les nouveaux avions permettront au Service d&#8217;inspection de la sant\u00e9 animale et v\u00e9g\u00e9tale (APHIS) d&#8217;atteindre des zones recul\u00e9es et d&#8217;accomplir leur mission essentielle de protection de l&#8217;agriculture. Le Cessna Caravan est connu pour sa grande capacit\u00e9 de charge utile et sa fiabilit\u00e9, ce qui le rend adapt\u00e9 aux op\u00e9rations dans des r\u00e9gions difficiles d&#8217;acc\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;APHIS pr\u00e9voit d&#8217;\u00e9quiper les nouveaux Cessna Caravans de syst\u00e8mes de lib\u00e9ration sp\u00e9ciaux pour disperser en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des insectes st\u00e9riles sur de vastes surfaces.
