Indian Railways breached the 1,400 t freight loading mark for the first time ever in FY 2021-22. The originating freight loading of Indian Railways stood at 1,418.1 t, which is 15% more than the previous best set in FY 2020-21 at 1,233.2 t.

 

The incremental loading of 185 million t was led primarily by coal with 111 t growth, followed by cement at 17.2 t and balance other goods at 15 t. The incremental loading of 185 t with 15% growth is the best ever improvement in both absolute and percentage terms.

 

The previous best incremental growth in percentage terms was achieved in 1981-82 with 12.9% growth. The previous best incremental loading in absolute terms was 66.1 t, achieved more than a decade ago in 2005-06. (ben)
