VR launches first Dr19 locomotive in Finland
Finland’s rail company VR has started operating the first of a total of 60 diesel locomotives it ordered from manufacturer Stadler Rail a few days ago. With the new unit, the carrier can deploy larger trains and reduce its carbon footprint, VR said.
The ordered locomotives will arrive in Finland in various stages, with the complete fleet of 60 units to be delivered by the end of 2026.
The Dr19 locomotives have been customised to deal with the country’s weather and railway conditions and are especially suitable for heavy freight traffic. They will gradually replace the company’s existing fleet. (ben)
