US manufacturer to modernise mining locomotives
Wabtec has signed an agreement to upgrade locomotives for Fortescue Metals Group. It will be the manufacturer’s first delivery of modernised locomotives to an Australian customer.
The fleet will be transformed into AC44C6M locomotives to meet Fortescue’s performance requirements. The modernised locomotives will offer improved performance and increased reliability with several new features.
The new AC44C6M locomotives will be rebuilt at Wabtec’s Fort Worth facility in Texas, USA, before making the journey to Western Australia over the next two years for deployment in Fortescue’s mining operations. (ben)
