US class I railway to expand business
CSX has been chosen as the rail transportation partner for a new USD 2.5 billion low-carbon aluminium recycling and rolling plant built by Novelis in Bay Minette, Alabama (USA). The facility will be the first fully integrated aluminium mill built in USA in 40 years.
In choosing the CSX Select Site for the project, Novelis noted that rail transportation can reduce logistics-related carbon emissions by up to 70% compared to highway transport.
The new plant will have an initial capacity of 600,000 t of finished aluminium goods capacity per year. Site work on the new facility is underway, and the company expects to begin commissioning in mid-2025. (ben)
