Two-thirds of e-fuel projects at risk

The National Association for Conservation and Biodiversity (Nabu), Germany's oldest and largest environmental association, has highlighted the critical need for a security of investment for manufacturers of e-fuels, warning that two-thirds of current production projects are at risk. According to a transport and environment analysis, only 0.24% of the necessary capacity for green hydrogen projects in Europe is securely financed.

Leif Miller, Nabu's CEO, emphasised that the maritime sector urgently requires e-fuels to meet EU climate goals. Sönke Diesener, Nabu's shipping expert, called for the German government to safeguard investments through climate protection contracts and quotas for sustainable fuels. The expansion of the EU's emissions trading system to include shipping could provide the necessary funds for this transformation, the association said in its press release. (pb)
