Transnet plans intermodal terminal in Limpopo
In South Africa, Transnet Freight Rail will cooperate with Eco-Industrial Solutions to develop an Intermodal Terminal Facility located within the Eco-Industrial Park in Limpopo in the north of the country.
One of the critical links between Zimbabwe, Zambia and freight ports in South Africa, the new facility will be a multi-modal dry-port logistics hub, providing essential services and significantly reducing congestion at the Beitbridge border, according to Transnet.
Design will start this year. The completion of the first project phase will see the development of capacity to handle and store 50,000 containers and subsequent phases will increase the capacity to 400,000 containers. (ben)
