Technology sorts, picks and puts away
Maersk is investing in tests of new technologies that offer upgraded warehouse services. The company is now evaluating technology from Bionic Hive, from Mira Loma CA (USA).
The technology can climb existing warehouse racking to sort, pick and replenish cartons directly in any spot in the rack. This is the only solution in the market with such operational flexibility and a minimal impact on warehouse interior infrastructure.
The mobile units are battery-operated, running a smart-power consumption module which automatically replaces power packs. By integrating Bionic Hive’s solution into warehousing operations Maersk will optimise processes and better serve customers, the company said. (ben)
