Tailwind aiming at the niches

The shippers' experiment continues. Tailwind Shipping Lines, the liner of the German retail group Lidl, is launching its second Asia-Europe service. It is named Tiger Express (TEX), after the Bengal tiger, the national animal of Bangladesh. The new offer follows the inauguration of the first service in 2022, the Panda Express that connects China with the European ports of Koper, Barcelona and Rotterdam.

The second service, which will have a fortnightly frequency, will start on 16 March 2023. Departing from the Bengal port of Chattogram, the port rotation will be Limassol, Barcelona and Moerdijk. The vessels “Panda 002” and “Solong” will be deployed.

Tailwind has determined that the new TEX service will be particularly useful for transporting textile products from Bangladesh. The carrier has highlighted that its strategy focuses on sea routes with few port calls and with the use of vessels with a capacity of up to 5,000 TEU, which can call at less busy ports near the main shopping centres, thus facilitating the speed of goods deliveries.
