Switzerland to allow automated driving

Up until now there were no automated driving systems approved for road use in Switzerland. This is now set to change, with automated driving to be allowed in Switzerland from 1 March onwards.

The first pilot projects are underway, one of which concerns freight transport tests, which start-up Loxo and transporter Planzer are carrying out together.

The autonomously-operated ‘Loxo Buzz Cargo’ unit used for the pilot project will deliver parcels on public roads in Bern from a Planzer hub to one of 14 transhipment points in the state capital, where the goods will be loaded onto small electric vehicles and distributed to final customers.

The ‘Loxo Buzz Cargo’ unit is a converted EU-approved dual-mode capable VW ‘Id.Buzz Cargo’ vehicle. (ben)
