Switzerland: more mail by rail
SBB Cargo and Swiss Post are continuing their long-standing partnership until the end of 2028. Under the contract, SBB Cargo ships letters and parcels in Switzerland on 84 train connections every day. Swiss Post has been working with SBB Cargo since 2022.
Several new train connections were introduced in 2023. The result: around 9 million additional parcels are now being shifted from road to rail every year, reducing CO2 emissions by around 1,000 t annually.
And the volumes of deliveries by train are also growing: SBB Cargo expects this year’s throughput to be 15% higher than in 2023. It aims to make its operations completely climate-neutral by 2030. (ben)
