Swiss railfreight company in the red again
Following a balanced result in 2019, SBB Cargo also felt the effects of the pandemic in FY 2020. Despite a corona aid of CHF 19 million from the federal government, the Swiss railfreight operator posted a significant loss of CHF 34.7 million.
Transport performance declined by 11.9% compared to the previous year. Particularly sharp declines were recorded in the chemicals (-26.7%), siderurgy (-15.0%) and mineral oil (-6.7%) sectors, as well as for DB Cargo trains in transit (-19.1%).
Production costs were reduced by 5.1%. Due to the pandemic, the decrease in the volume of wagons transported 9.3%, almost twice as high a loss as in 2019. (ben)
