Swiss Post: from a letter to a parcel centre
As the general trend of decreasing letter volumes and increasing parcel volumes continues, Swiss Post has decided to reconfigure a section of its existing letter centre in Härkingen and install a parcel sorting system that effectively creates a regional parcel hub.
Part of the set-up is Syncrotess Yard Management System (YMS) produced by software provider Inform. It is the fifth deployment of the YMS within the Swiss Post network. The Härkingen site is scheduled to go live in 2023.
Ingo Marko, senior consultant for Inform’s logistics division: “The Härkingen site will only be handling road transports, and the site’s loading and unloading docks will be mutually used for processing both letters and parcels. This mutual use requires special attention to communication within the software so that it is clear to which dock parcel or letter shipments are assigned." (sh)
