Strong growth for the railway industry
The German railway industry registered a new record turnover of EUR 12.9 billion in 2021. It stood 3% above that for the previous year, according to the Verband der Bahnindustrie in Deutschland (German rail industry association, VDB).
Domestic business increased by about 2.5% and export sales by 4%. The railway industry in Germany also registered a record order intake of EUR 16.7 billion (+19%).
Strong supply chain partnerships and a significant acceleration of investments in the railways are now necessary, says the VDB, in order to stay on the path to success and achieve targets for the ecology – despite the Ukraine war and economic uncertainties. (ben)
