Sri Lankan's Spark Air in the starting block

Exactly one month ago, on 8 September 2020, Spark Air applied to the Sri Lankan government for an air operator's certificate (AOC) and an operator's licence (OL) amid plans to launch flights in February 2021.

In an interview with national media, Spark Air's head of safety management systems, Uditha Danwatte, said the carrier will initially focus on cargo operations before branching into the passenger niche to destinations such as the USA, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Far East.

As such, it will shortly conclude dry-lease agreements with unspecified lessors covering two A330. The company also plans to build hangers and launch a MRO project at Mattala (HRI) in the south of the insular state in the Indian Ocean. (ah)
