Scotland's airports one month before Brexit

According to a study by York Aviation, Glasgow Airport (GLA) currently contributes EUR 1.65 billion to Scotland’s economy. The sum is expected to rise to EUR 2.9 billion by 2040. However, the difficult-to-estimate consequences of the UK leaving the EU have not been taken into account. Brexit should take place in around five weeks, on 29 March 2019.

GLA handled 15,466 t of freight in 2018, 2.9% less than in 2017. The 2018 tonnage at Prestwick (PIK) was slightly less (13,004 t), but 14% more than in 2017.

ABZ, the airport serving the oil metropolis Aberdeen processed 6,162 t (+ 2.6%), whilst Scotland’s largest cargo airport serving the capital Edinburgh (EDI) noted 19,555 t (-5.3%) of airfreight.
