RZD ploughs fortune into track equipment fleet
Russian Railways (RZD) poured RUB 12.9 billion (EUR 173.1 million) into updating its track equipment fleet. A total of 572 items were purchased for the maintenance and repair of railway infrastructure.
The equipment included four stone-cleaning machines, 49 motor-rail vehicles, nine snow-removal units and 84 heavy-duty track repair units such as track-laying cranes, track alignment machines, motorised and mechanised platforms and rail-welding machines etc. In addition, 397 special freight wagons and passenger carriages were acquired.
The rail service provider also spent more than RUB 2.2 billion (EUR 29.5 million) on overhauling track equipment and repairing some 359 items.
