Russian flat cars to operate in Europe

The Russia-based freight car manufacturer, UWC, has obtained the vehicle type approval for its Sggrs(s) 80ft six-axle and Sgmmns 40ft four-axle flat cars from the European Union Agency for Railways. This permit enables this rolling stock to be operated on the European railway network according to Directive (EU) 2016/797.

For the first time in modern Russian history, domestic freight cars will be operated in Europe on 1,435 mm gauge rail tracks. UWC’s current order portfolio for European countries exceeds 1,000 wagons. Russia-made flat cars designed to transport heavyweight containers in European countries have passed successfully the strength tests for static load and impact, stationary and in-motion brake tests, dynamic and strength testing in motion, and noise impact tests.
