Russia: railfreight volumes decline
Russian Railways (RZD) shipped 99.4 million t of freight across its network in February 2020, a drop of 0.6% compared to the same period last year. Freight turnover in February 2020 decreased by 2.4% to 197.4 billion tkm and by 2.9% to 251.4 billion tkm when taking into account empty car runs during the same period.
According to the company's latest figures, shipping for January-February 2020 amounted to 199.6 million t, which is 2.8% less than the same period last year.
The main share of transported freight was oil and oil products with 38.7 million t (-2.1%). Grain cargo volumes posted the most significant loss (-17.1%), dropping to 3.4 million t. RZD has generated a freight turnover of 406.8 billion tkm (-3.3%) since the beginning of this year. (ben)
