Roses and Platinum
The cargo business at Bangalore airport (BLR) witnessed a near two-fold increase in rose shipments in the run-up to Valentine's Day this year. Spreading the fragrance of roses across the globe, the Central Indian airport facilitated the movement of approximately 515 t of roses to 25 destinations vs. 270 t shipped in 2021.
The top domestic (315 t) destinations for roses include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati and Chandigarh. Among the top international destinations were Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, Amsterdam, Kuwait, Auckland, Beirut, Manila, Muscat and Dubai.
In other news, BLR was awarded the prestigious peer platinum certification by Green Building Certification for its airport power infrastructure. This makes BLR the first airport in the world to receive the highest score of 92/100. (ah)
